Academic Advising and Academic Support

Welcome to the PLNU Office of Academic Advising and Academic Support. Point Loma Nazarene University's outstanding undergraduate programs have a long tradition of academic and co-curricular excellence. Our faculty and staff include experts and industry leaders in a variety of disciplines. By emphasizing critical thinking, practical knowledge, and real world experience, classes and support services at Point Loma prepare students to be dynamic leaders.

The PLNU Academic Advising office assists undergraduate students with the development of meaningful academic plans that are consistent with their educational, career and personal goals through the utilization of the full range of institutional and community resources. New students are encouraged prepare for entrance into the university by visiting the New Student Registration and Academic Advising webpages.

Academic Majors, Minors and Concentrations#

Academic Advising also provides counseling and support as undergradute students prepare for declaring, adding, or changing majors, minors and concentrations. Department specific faculty advisors are assigned to students through the Academic Advising Office in order to facilitate effective and ongoing student and faculty collaboration.

Advising for Undeclared Majors #

Undeclared students are empowered through individual advising, informational activities, career and personality assessments, and guidance counseling as they prepare to concentrate in an academic major program of study.

L.E.A.P. (Learning Experiences for Academic Progress) Program#

LEAP provides a selected number of incoming freshmen with a year of cultural activities, structured academic programming, and on-campus support services in order to maintain academic success, increase retention and degree attainment.

Disability Resource Center (DRC)#

The Disability Resource Center is the point of contact for individuals with physical / learning / psychological disabilities. The DRC ensures compliance with federal regulations for access and accommodation for undergraduate students with disabilities to all curricular and co-curricular opportunities offered by the university through collaboration with faculty and staff.

Tutorial Services#

Providing academic enrichment resources to assist students as they manage the demands of course requirements, the PLNU Tutorial Center offers free peer tutoring, review sessions, paper editing, study strategies, organization skills and more, for over 100 undergraduate subjects.
